Black Small Cylinder Jar

A simple small vessel in Korean Black Ware, its cylindrical form tapers in the midsection.

There is a slight gloss to the deep black glaze, and a subtle texture.  The underside is unglazed and inscribed with a circle and the artist's stamp.

Black Ware, with its distinctive iron black glaze, has been produced in Korea since the Goryeo Dynasty (918-1392).  A smooth black glaze with a rich gloss was perfected during the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1897), while some Black Ware has a matte textured finish with subtle rust undertones.
