This Moon Jar is a minimalist work in Buncheong Ware, using the technique called Deom-beong, in which the vessel is dipped into the slip, or top layer of liquid white clay.
The colour is creamy off-white, with warm rust undertones. The surface is subtly textured and in small areas the dark clay is visible, either partially veiled or exposed.

The distinctive texture of Buncheong Ware is uniquely Korean in origin. A dark clay body is covered by a layer of liquid white clay, known as the 'slip'. The slip may be applied by brush, by pouring over or by dipping the vessel, and the drips and brush marks show in the final work; this is the unique charm of Buncheong Ware.
