This petite vase is as cute as a button with its curvaceous little form clad in two-tone Buncheong ware.
The white slip, or top layer of clay, is semi-transparent at the base, resulting in a light grey colour. Meanwhile, the slip at the top of the vase is opaque, creating a white finish.
The surface is subtly textured and the glaze has a slight gloss. The underside has no slip, with the dark clay exposed.

The distinctive texture of Buncheong Ware is uniquely Korean in origin. A dark clay body is covered by a layer of liquid white clay, known as the 'slip'. The slip may be applied by brush, by pouring over or by dipping the vessel, and the drips and brush marks show in the final work; this is the unique charm of Buncheong Ware.
