Celadon Round Lidded Box

A minimalist expression of traditional Korean Celadon in a simple round container.  Both the box and its lid are glazed on all surfaces, including the inside surfaces.

The glaze is smooth and lustrous with very fine cracks under the surface.  The jade-green colour has a gentle gradation to a paler tone at the top.

Prized throughout history for its ultra-smooth jade-coloured glaze, Korean Celadon, or cheong-ja, represents a pinnacle of ceramic technique.  It has been produced in Korea since the 10th century.

Artist Choi Jin-Ho uses all natural materials and techniques refined over ten centuries to formulate his Celadon glaze. Its distinctive lustre embodies the passing down of this art form over generations.
